Teacher Conferences

Yesterday Jeff went to Parent Teacher Conferences for Aleena and Peyton. Overall they both went really well!! Here is what was on there report cards and Conference Summaries;

Aleena has struggled every year since 2nd grade; having to go through tutoring for Reading and Math. She's in 5th grade and you still can't give her math problem such as 7+8 and her spit the answer right out for you. And I worry every year about it; praying that she gets a better knowledge on it. She's already started tutoring this year and the teachers think she'll be just fine and excel this year. I worry because she has to pass those TAKS tests to proceed to Middle School in the fall. But anyway; on to her report... They grade on a scale of 1-4 (1 not apparent at this time, 2 Beginning to Develop, 3 Developed and 4 Highly Developed). In Reading she got a 2, Writing Progress 3, Science 3, Math 3, Social Studies 3. Her comment on the bottom of this reads Aleena shows excellent participation and respect in all classes. Please encourage her to carefully focus on class labs and discuss them at home each evening. In math, Aleena has been inconsistent in some areas. She needs to be focused on tasks, socialize less, and check her work often. She requires additional practice with working carefully on estimation, multiplication, and problem solving strategies. We will continue to work on cause and effect, as well as choosing a variety of texts for her independent reading. She is demonstrating initial stages of comprehension. Her good attitude will contribute to her progress! Her conference summary pretty much states the same thing..

And now Peyton... With all that this little man has been through in his life he just continues to amaze me on how far he's come. His report card shows his hard work and love for reading!! His grades are as follows; Reading 4, Writing 3, Science 3, Math 4, Social Studies 3. And his comment here reads Peyton WOWS me every day! He is like the little bunny who's battery never runs down. I am enjoying the smile that goes with everything he does. He's a great reader and has a fantastic sense for math. His dedication to reading and taking AR tests is unmatched! His writing is creative even if his handwriting is a little difficult to read. Peyton never passes up a chance to answer a question or to help a friend in need. He is indeed a blessing to have in our class family. And his Conference Summary reads Student's Strengths: Peyton always has a positive attitude and does his very best. He is a strong reader and enjoys reading with me. He knows the phonemes that affect his spelling and works hard to spell words correctly. Area(s) for growth: We are developing problem solving strategies in Math. We could work a little bit on his handwriting, or he may be destined to be a doctor!! It seems inconsistent that he doesn't insist on the perfection in that area, as he does with everything else. We're working on that! Suggestions for home: Peyton is going wild with the reading at home!! I hope he doesn't wear himself out and get bored with that! Please let me know if you sense that happening. Work with him toward writing complete sentences on his answers.

Regarding her comment on him taking AR tests is unmatched; the books are graded on a scale of difficulty, based on reading difficulty, words on the book etc. He's typically reading at a level of 3, but keeps requesting to be tested at higher AR levels. All the way up to a 4.4! And on those he's only missed 1 question; out of 15 tests he's scored a 91.3% avg. We very proud of all of our kids and the things they've accomplished!

Thanks if you've gotten this far! :-)
